Marjorie L. Stires

Marjorie (Marj) Louise Stires (Connors), 80, of Fountain Hills passed away Feb. 7, 2017 surrounded by love. Marj was born in Columbus, Ohio and married Elden (Ike) Stires on June 4, 1954.

She was a member of the Church of Ascension in Johnstown, Ohio, St. Edward's in Granville, Ohio, and most recently the Church of The Ascension in Fountain Hills where she and Ike have resided since 1989.

She was very active in her church and community, and gave freely of herself doing volunteer work until well into her 70s. Beloved and cherished by all who knew her, she will be greatly missed.

Marj is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ike Stires; and has three children, Bart Stires (deceased), Jeff Stires and Susan (Justin) Dunphy. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Charles (Jennifer), Bart, Caitlin, Allyson, Austin and Chelsea. She was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Lyla and Rylan, and her third whom she has not yet met.

If you would like to pay your respects, a memorial mass will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at Church of The Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.

In lieu of flowers, Marj would like donations made to Carol Anne Stires’ foundation, which was established in June, 2016, after Carol (Marj’s daughter-in-law) passed away from cancer at the age of 58.

The CAS Foundation assists cancer patients and their families with the expense of accommodations and travel when the patient is undergoing cancer treatment while away from home.
