The existing McDonald’s at Shea and Saguaro boulevards will be demolished and rebuilt at the same location next year.
Town economic development director Scott G. Cooper confirmed reports about the new construction. Although the timing has not yet been determined, it is his understanding that the project is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018.
Cooper has been in contact with franchise owner Mark Kramer, who operates several McDonald’s franchises with Jerry Wernau. Neither Wernau nor Kramer could be contacted for comment.

In the coming months, they will apply for a demolition permit and submit building plans to the town, said Cooper. Probably a second drive-through lane would be built, Cooper added.
Last March McDonald’s corporate executives told investors that the company would re-image about 650 restaurants this year.
If the local re-build follows the trend in other cities across the nation, the new restaurant will feature a more contemporary design — inside and out — allowing customers to have a more interactive experience.
The company said customers would have “greater control, convenience and personalization” through the use of kiosks to place orders, staffed with guest experience leaders to assist in the process.
“Additionally, customers will be able to place orders directly on the mobile app for pickup or have a kiosk recognize their app profile, which holds customized favorites and preferred payment methods,” according to the press release. “The result is a more stress-free, personalized experience, enhanced by technology and world-class hospitality that puts customers in control.”
