Fountain Hills' McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission terminated

After guiding Preserve development

The Town of Fountain Hills McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission (MMPC), after decades of guiding development of the town’s McDowell Mountain Preserve has decided its work is done and asked the Town Council to sunset its duties.

At its Feb. 21 regular meeting the council voted unanimously to approve a resolution to terminate the commission per Town Code.

According to a staff report, the MMPC oversaw the application of the Preserve’s guiding principles to preserve, conserve and protect the Fountain Hills McDowell Mountain Preserve in its natural state. The goal at its inception was to oversee the development of the Adero Canyon Trailhead to completion and it opened officially in 2018.
