MCSO presents information, tips during scam presentation in Fountain Hills

Public education considered the best way to prevent becoming victims

More than 100 people attended a presentation on scams at the Fountain Hills Community Center on June 26, and many seemed to have their own personal stories about scammers trying to victimize them.

People with such experiences may not have been the audience Det. Roberts with the Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit was hoping to reach. They tend to be more aware and with such experience may be less likely to become a victim. However, Roberts points out that presentations to get the word out is the best way to address the ongoing proliferation of financial scams perpetrated on citizens.

“Some of these are so prevalent they are automatic red flags for people,” Roberts said. “But there are many variations.”
