Who or what is controlling our nation?

Where’s the center of power that holds the most control and influence over today’s societal tendencies?

Here’s six questions that may provide some answers.

First, where do we get most of our decision-making information? Second, who decides what subjects are important and worthy of attention. Third, who controls the accuracy and amount of information provided? Fourth, who has no relevant checks and balances over their activities. Fifth, who has constitutional protection without responsibility? Sixth, who has little or no competition?

Tell me where I’m wrong. The media is overwhelmingly partisan. The media stars often attempt to become bigger than their stories. The media’s network reaches more people more frequently than any other entity.

The media controls the political landscape and, thus, many of the politicians. The media frequently uses unbalanced and biased information. The media is in the position to arrange a story to fit their culture. The media’s overreactions and mistakes can go without recourse.

Doesn’t the media even have greater influence over our children than we do?

Power is not always good. It can also be evil, delusional and without wisdom. Power not responsible to the people will likely be corrupted and used against the powerless. Hasn’t a large portion of America’s power fallen into the hands of those controlling mass media?

Edmund Burke: “The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse.” Seen any abuse in our mass media?

A talking head on TV referred to the media as a political machine without professional integrity.

Power comes from force or a trust of those giving it. And history tells us that those in power will never willingly give it up. So where do you see media power taking us? Do you trust the media?
