Meehan: My opinion on the MCSO contract

Posted

As a resident of Fountain Hills, I expect that the people who we support and elect to run our town actually represent us by asking the tough questions and challenging the status quo. There has been much said over the past year about the MCSO contract with our town and as the old saying goes, “Where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

We have seen an audit/review of the MCSO contract that has revealed several deficiencies. The most glaring is that we are not getting what we are paying for plus the lack of service called for by the contract. While others dither or look the other way, there has been one person who has been asking the right questions and will follow through on cleaning up this issue for our town. That is mayoral candidate Gerry Friedel.

It is easy to kick the can down the road but again, I’ll fall back on an old saying, “If it’s the easy thing to do, it’s probably the wrong thing to do.” In this case, it’s also the unsafe thing to do! If it continues to be swept under the rug it will put the safety of nearly 25,000 Fountain Hills residents at risk – and of all things, for political reasons. A basic tenant of business is to periodically review contracts, audit the outcome and renegotiate to be sure the buyer (us) gets what they pay for – it’s pretty simple and it’s past time to act on this issue. Thank you, Gerry Friedel for following through on this for all of the residents of Fountain Hills.
