“Ladies: It’s Time,” an original musical featuring 13 suffragettes and their involvement in the women’s movement, will be presented at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.
Peg Inglis, a winter resident from New York, wrote the play for the Women’s Ministry of Fountain Hills Church’s spring get-together. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
The characters in the play, including Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Abigail Lucy Stone, Amelia Bloomer, Sojourney Truth, Julia Ward Howe, Victoria Woodhull, Clara Barton and others, will share their involvement in the women’s rights movement that lasted 52 years.
By the time women were given the right to vote, most of these suffragettes had passed away.
Inglis was inspired by “Not for Ourselves Alone,” a book written by Ken Burns and Geoff Ward. She felt that the stories of these women “cried out to be heard and sung throughout the land.”
The play was presented Sept. 30, 2017, as a fundraiser for Inglis’ branch of the American Association of University Women. She will direct the production featuring women from the congregation.
Admission is free. Donations will be accepted for the Fountain Hills Theater summer program scholarship fund.
