Memorial Day

It was inspiring to see so many people at Monday’s Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony at our town’s Veterans Memorial. What a great and wonderful sight to see so many busy people take time out of their “holiday” to honor and commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice -- their lives -- so that we can enjoy the many blessings of a great and free country.

I want to give thanks to those who participated in the ceremony. All the speakers were good. The speech by Joe Brett, vice president of the Veterans Hour/Veterans Heritage Project, was especially moving and inspiring.

“Taps” played by Debbie Fisher was poignant, the music provided by the Fountain Hills Saxophone Quartet greatly enhanced the ceremony. As usual, VFW Post 7507’s Color Guard was excellent; what would a ceremony be without them presenting and retiring the Colors?

A very special thanks is due to Dan Kauffman for the distribution of corn on the cob and various fruits to veterans and their families who attended. Thanks also to all those who helped with the setup and take down of the site.

But most importantly, well done to all who came out to honor and commemorate our fallen Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines who gave their lives for us.
