As someone who follows the news closely I was confused when I saw a TV ad last week that claimed schools in Arizona have been raising tuition and making college unaffordable.

I attended ASU back in the ‘60s, and while it was affordable then, it appears to be more accessible now than it ever was before. I asked my son to research the numbers on who received ASU financial aid and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that over 10,000 full-time Arizona residents did not have to pay any ASU tuition and fees due to gift aid.

I never remember universities doing this in my time at ASU, and after budget cuts from the state I am impressed with ASU for leading the way in financial aid.

From what I’ve heard ASU students also rank far lower on the national average student debt scale. This is stunning for a university of ASU’s size and credibility.

All in all, I am frustrated with the ad that calls out Arizona schools, and I encourage people to do their own research and find out the facts.

P.S. Congratulations to Mayor Linda Kavanagh, Councilmen Henry Leger, Nick DePorter and Alan Magazine for being elected to Town Council!
