Missing Bob

It was with great sadness to learn that Bob Deppe passed away last month. It has become clear to me that many people are not aware of his passing.

As many of you know, I am the facilitator for the Fountain Hills Men’s Discussion Group. We meet every Monday morning. Bob was a regular member of the group almost from its inception. He always sat in the same spot and almost always wore a yellow shirt.

Since his seat was right next to mine, we had many discussions, mostly about his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. My being a Packer fan allowed for some very good conversations.

It dawned on me that I had not seen Bob at a meeting for a while; clearly not his style. I sent him an email asking how he was.

The response that I received was totally unexpected. He told me he had stage four lung cancer! He was getting treatment and hoped to get back to us soon. Some weeks later, still no sign of Bob. I sent another note and that is when I learned that he had passed away on Jan. 17.

For those of you who knew Bob, this will not be new, but for others reading this will give you some insight as to the man.

Bob was quiet, but always willing to give you a measured response. He was very active in the town activities and often attended Town Council meetings. His input was valued.

Bob was a neat guy. He will be missed not only by his family, but by his community family.

Rest in peace.
