Fountain Hills lost a very special person last week with the sudden passing of Dr. David Gottfried.
My wife and I were privileged to have him as our primary care physician for over a decade. During that time, we not only received outstanding care at the Fountain Hills Medical Clinic, but also had the opportunity to experience Dr. G’s unique sense of humor, unparalleled medical knowledge, and incredible balance of compassion and directness.
There was not a dry eye at his memorial service. The love he shared with his family and close friends was palpable and moved all of us in attendance. And this brief glimpse into another side of his life makes his passing even more difficult to accept.

Few people know of Dr. G’s many professional accomplishments, primarily because he was far too humble to broadcast such achievements. His focus throughout his career and personal life was on helping those around him.
In addition to his stellar academic record, he specialized in both neurosurgery and emergency medicine. He also served in the U.S. Navy and held senior medical positions supporting the Navy SEALs and NASA space missions. He and his wife Carrol also supported various charitable organizations.
We could all learn valuable lessons from Dr. G on integrity, dignity, respect and service to others.
We certainly miss our doctor. But we really miss our friend.
