A search for a woman missing in Fountain Hills on Friday, Jan. 24, resulted in a major outreach effort by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, but it eventually had a positive ending.
The family of a 64-year-old woman reported her missing about an hour after she was last seen leaving the Lexington Hotel on Saguaro Boulevard where she was staying.
Family members said the woman suffers from dementia and speaks only Chinese. They also reported she takes medication she did not have with her.
Sheriff’s Lt. John D’Amico said MCSO resources in the search included K-9 units and a helicopter. Deputies obtained a photo of the woman from family and circulated it in the downtown area but found no one who had seen her.
Around 10:30 p.m. deputies received a report from a hotel guest that they returned from dinner and found a woman in their room asleep. It was the missing woman.
She apparently returned to the hotel and somehow got into the wrong room and went to bed.
D’Amico said deputies were unable to determine how the woman was able to get into the wrong room.
