A contractor for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will begin work on Monday, March 10, to abandon a series of monitoring wells in the northern part of town centered in the area about Fountain Hills and Glenbrook boulevards.
This work will initially require traffic restrictions on Glenbrook Boulevard for a few days. Off duty Sheriff's deputies will be on hand to monitor traffic as this area is also a school zone.
Much of the work will have little or no impact on traffic and will take about a month to complete. Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There were 30 monitoring wells were put in place a number of years ago after leaking fuel tanks were removed from a closed gas station at Glenbrook and Fountain Hills. The wells were placed as far away as Calaveras and El Sobrante avenues. There is no longer a need for the monitoring wells.
