Failed mayoral candidate Ginny Dickey appears to be obsessed with her near 2-1 loss to my wife, Mayor Linda Kavanagh. This obsession became most pronounced in her recent letter purportedly urging voters to support Tammy Caputi’s legislative race, in which Dickey spent most of the letter spinning her own mayoral election statistics to minimize her huge loss and my wife’s stunning victory and, once again, attacking my wife and my legislative work.
The early signs of Dickey’s obsessive behavior first presented after the election when rather than concede the election and congratulate Mayor Kavanagh, she criticized her in this newspaper. And last week’s letter (“Vote Caputi,” FH Times 10/12/16) was even worse, with more spin and more attacks.
I would like to set the record straight for the public and for Ginny Dickey because in order to get to the final “stage of grief” which is acceptance, one needs to get past the first two stages of denial and anger, where Ginny seems trapped. 5,986 people voted for mayor and Linda Kavanagh got 3,947 of those votes, which amounts to a stunning 66 percent victory. I am very proud of my wife and the great job she does as mayor, which the voters clearly validated and which Ginny Dickey tries to degrade.

Now I know that Ginny Dickey hypes that she was a write-in candidate and I concede that is a handicap. But the write-in handicap was more than overcome by the massive amount of money Dickey spent on her campaign, an unprecedented $14,065 – nearly $7 per vote! In contrast, Mayor Kavanagh only spent $4,782.
So to sum it up, Ginny, Mayor Kavanagh beat you by an almost two to one margin even though you outspent her by a nearly three to one margin.
