Moveable feast tomorrow at Presbyterian Church

Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church has planned two special services for Holy Week.

“A Moveable Feast” will begin at 6 p.m., tomorrow, Thursday, April 18.

Worship will start around candlelit tables in the church’s Fellowship Center. Against this backdrop, youth dressed as disciples will serve a family-style meal of rice and beans.

The meager meal is typical of food eaten daily by two-thirds of the world’s population, said Pastor Bill Good.

“Our sharing in this meal reflects our Christian response to Christ’s command that ‘the first shall be last,’ and our embrace of his call to sacrifice and surrender,” he added.

Those interested in attending should make a reservation at 480-837-1763.

A free will offering will be given to Extended Hands Food Bank.

As dinner progresses, five costumed participants will share the story of that fateful night.

After the meal, worshipers will follow a candlelit path to the church’s sanctuary to share in the Lord’s Supper. The choir and accompanists will provide music to enhance the experience.

As the service progresses, the sanctuary will be draped in black cloths, leaving worshippers to depart into Good Friday.

On Saturday, April 20, worshippers will gather at 7 p.m. for “The Great Vigil of Easter.” In the symbolic dawn of Resurrection, as worshipers look on, the shadows of despair will give way to clear light of new hope.

The sanctuary will be transformed for the Easter celebration amid flowers and alleluias.

“These services have been painstakingly designed by our staff to provide a worship experience unlike any that anyone can experience elsewhere,” Good said. “We really hope folks from the entire Fountain Hills community will join us.”
