To say that 2013 has been slow for new movies would be something of an understatement. But that’s all about to change once May arrives. Of the 12 or so big-budget films hitting the silver screen next month, a large selection of them look to be surefire blockbusters.

In a single month, moviegoers are going to be treated to the latest Iron Man film, as well as the new Star Trek movie from director J.J. Abrams, Into Darkness. The Great Gatsby also releases next month, sporting an all-star cast and a high-octane re-imagining of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.

And that all happens in the first two weeks of May alone!

The back half of the month begins with Epic on May 24, the latest animated family film from the folks behind Rio and the Ice Age series. That same day also sees The Hangover Part III releasing, as well as Fast and Furious 6.

The first month of the summer movie season is doing a nice job of making up for a lackluster start to the year. Now the only problem is finding the time to get out and see as many of these movies as possible.
