Muriel C. Collins

Muriel C. Collins died at her Fountain Hills home on Aug. 28, 2015 after a recent hospitalization.

Muriel was born and reared in Chicago, where she lived until moving to Florida after early high school graduation at the age of 16.

She then moved to Long Beach, where she met and married Frank, her husband of 53 years, and worked as director of lay-personnel for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard until she started raising her family.

During this time, she held several volunteer positions, including treasurer of multiple PTAs, the St. Mary’s Hospital Guild, and finally, for the Fountain View Village Resident Council, where she lived the last decade of her life.

Muriel was a voracious reader of books, news and magazines, and therefore was an early surfer on the Internet, which she continued on her iPad through her last hospitalization.

Generous throughout the year, Christmas was her favorite time of year, whether hosting the local family party, buying gifts for her family and friends or collecting and distributing money for the staff holiday fund at her retirement village.

Muriel is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Collins; son, Charles Collins, and his partner, Randall George.

Donations may be made to the World Wildlife Fund or Extended Hands Food Bank of Fountain Hills.

Her life will be celebrated and ashes scattered at sea at the site of her husband Frank’s prior scattering in Long Beach.
