My response

My initial response to Peggy Purvis’s first letter challenged your statement that health care “spending” was the lowest in recorded history.

You responded last week that your basis for saying this was a report that “health care ‘inflation’ is the lowest it has been in 50 years.”

Inflation and spending are two different things. I’m not disputing the inflation comment, but the real statement is that from 2008 to 2011 inflation rose 28 percent. If you are bragging on “only 28 percent” being good, this is nothing to brag about. Is this a standard for the future that you are willing to accept? I’m not!

This inflation does not include 2013/2014. It has been reported that most people who checked out Obamacare are seeing an average increase of 32 percent, with younger applicants experiencing closer to a 300 percent increase. You bragged that your new Obamacare insurance premium decreased by $300. That is great. But what about your deductibles and copay -- you have to consider the whole picture. Has your “net” out of pocket cost gone up or down?

You also stated that your old policy was a “junk insurance.” Whose fault was that? In my lifetime, I’ve never had a junk insurance policy. You get what you pay for.

It is reported that 85 percent of people were satisfied with their old policies and want to continue with them instead of Obamacare. Besides costs, you have to consider patient care and doctor and hospital access. Have you been able to keep your old doctors, etc.?

You are being invited to attend the next Tea Party meeting to discuss your experiences with us. Please attend. We are really nice people and we don’t bite.
