Last Wednesday’s paper gave a report on the study conducted on Fountain Hills’ streets. I understand that this, due to publishing deadlines, was written based on the online report and not on the Tuesday presentation to the town council.

I attended the town council on Tuesday and heard the presentation. I am concerned that the article provides a rather benign picture of the problem. Based on graphs shown, I observed that we are on the cusp of a large portion of our streets moving from needing an easy, low-cost repair to more costly and extensive work in the next few years. Now is the time to get ahead of this looming problem.

I would also like to comment on the no voters who claim town council members are irresponsible, untrustworthy or make bad decisions. There are council members who worked diligently to stave off a property tax and you are now throwing them under the bus. Why do we have Park Place? High density equals more sales tax dollars. And the lagoon, a cockamamie proposal hated by all, was an effort to bring more revenue to town. To throw their efforts back in their faces is shameful.

The financial needs have been studied. A variety of alternatives have been looked at and considered. Many townspeople have been working on this for years.

Please vote yes on May 15.
