A new elective course, American Music History 101, was unanimously approved for Fountain Hills High School students by the governing board at its June 17 meeting.
The course will be taught by Austin Keating, who has taught at Fountain Hills High School since 2019 and is also a graduate of the school.
The project-based elective will explore the history of American music by examining how musical genres have evolved alongside cultural, social, political and technological changes rather than focusing on learning to perform music.
