The pastors of New Journey Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran, Scottsdale, will partner for a sermon series, “Unlikely Suspects” for August.

“Unlikely Suspects” sounds like playing the mystery board game, Clue, where players seek to determine through “clues” which player committed the murder. All the individuals are unlikely suspects.

The series relates how God often calls unlikely suspects to live out God’s mission and ministry wherever they are in life.

The sermons will be about people who are less known and yet God called them to take on a certain task or ministry.

The goal of the series is for participants to understand that God calls not just the likely, but also the unlikely.

The first sermon by Resmer will be Aug. 5, related to Esther, text 4:9-14.

The subject on Aug. 12, preached by Lawrence, will be Anna from Luke 2:36-38.

Resmer will return on Aug. 19 with the Demoniac. Test is Mark 5:1-20.

Lawrence concludes the series on Aug. 26 portraying Aaron from Exodus 4:10-16.

New Journey Lutheran Church is located at 16748 E. Parkview Ave.
