New signs announce Dark Sky designation

The Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association unveiled new street signs that notify travelers on Shea Boulevard of the town’s status as an International Dark Sky Community, a designation awarded one year ago.

Noelle Derksen, a graduate of the graphic design program at EVIT, designed the signs. Don Harvel and Mark Derksen worked with Town Manager Grady Miller and Public Works Director Justin Weldy to get the signs installed at the two entrances on Shea near Eagle Mountain Parkway and the Beeline Highway.

“It took a considerable amount of effort to become the world’s 17th Dark Sky Community,” Mark Derksen said. “We are proud of that, the town is proud of that, and we want people to know this fact about Fountain Hills.”
