Town property tax is one of the worst ideas in a long list of bad ideas. There is no guarantee they would spend the tax only on our necessities.
The more money government has, the more they will spend on things we don’t need. The town reduced the staff by one-third because of the recession. What changed? We still have police, fire, paramedics, Town Hall, civic center, library, museum, parks and theater.
To say our town grew on other people’s money is a misstatement. We paid sales tax on our homes and things we buy. The state grants and revenue sharing are paid for by our and visitors’ property taxes, state sales tax and income taxes.

Once a town property tax is approved by the voters, we will never again have a say in it. The council can raise the tax by 2 percent every year. In 10 years that’s 20 percent; think they won’t do it? Check out other town taxes.
Our commercial businesses are struggling to stay in business. The last thing they need is another tax. Higher taxes do not attract new business. When will people learn to stop spending other people’s money? The winter visitors are our town life blood. Without them most of the businesses in town would go out of business. Is there no end to the thirst some people have for the government to entertain them and nanny them?
When do people learn to take care of themselves?
Why would you want to pay 7$ million in new taxes? Maybe we could build an amusement park and call it Little Coney Island.
Keep government small, keep it mean and lean. If you want to increase the town’s revenues, make it business friendly. No new taxes.
