Serious candidates register a campaign committee to verify and account for their election activities. But not Bob Shelstrom, as a “candidate” for Sanitary District Board.
I understand that you only have to file a campaign committee and report when you collect and/or spend – in combination – $1,200 or more. So, in this race, is Mr. Shelstrom saying by not filing a campaign committee that he won’t reach that threshold?

No statement of organization, no campaign chairman and no treasurer – so no verification that he understands or follows the rules. That seems odd to me for a person who always cries about a lack of transparency. Mr. Shelstrom’s efforts to run for any elected position in Fountain Hills seems to be an attempt to merely muddy the waters.
He’s running against three incumbents. Does he think he can win this race without campaigning? He must, as he’s a regular – and a self-proclaimed expert – at many meetings in town, regardless of the subject. And, because he filed nominating petitions to become a candidate, with only three open spots and the three incumbents running, the election would have been certified without a voting process had he not filed. As a result of his actions, the election will cost Fountain Hills residents over $35,000 to conduct. Now that’s serious taxpayer money.
I don’t trust this candidate. He brags of being a “disrupter.” He’s not a serious candidate. All he’s doing is wasting taxpayer money. No way I’m voting for him.
