Norman E. Koss, a 32-year resident of Fountain Hills, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at 89 years old.
Born on March 10, 1926 in Detroit, Mich., Norm was an avid Tigers fan until he switched allegiances to the Diamondbacks after retiring to Fountain Hills.
He attended Wayne State University and worked in commercial photography and advertising at General Motors Photographic for 37 years. His passion and skill as a photographer were captured in his images of his family and desert landscapes.
A World War II veteran, Norm served in the U.S. Navy on one of the 38 ships deployed to the Battle of Okinawa. He remained stationed there for two years following the end of the war.
He met his wife of 61 years, Christine, while they were both employed by General Motors. In addition to gardening, they enjoyed travel and discovered Fountain Hills on a visit to Phoenix. Norm referred to it as “God’s Country” and they both knew they would make it their home.
In addition to Christine, Norman leaves behind two daughters and three granddaughters; Cherie Koss Waldo (Doug) of Mendocino, Calif. and their daughter, Jessamyn; and Cathleen Ferger (Dan) and their daughters, Brielle and Danielle of Peoria, Ariz.
Services will be held at the Church of the Ascension on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite charity.
