Note to motorists: R-E-L-A-X

The Green Bay Packers started their 2014 season with a record of 1-2 after the first three games. Their well-known quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, went on the air and famously told Packer Nation to R-E-L-A-X.

Of course, those words now haunt the team after perhaps relaxing too much against the Seattle Seahawks in the last four minutes of the NFC championship game on Sunday, but it might be a mantra we can adopt here in Fountain Hills. And it has nothing to do with football.

We are specifically talking to the drivers in town. Can we all just R-E-L-A-X?

Of course, those words now haunt the team after perhaps relaxing too much against the Seattle Seahawks in the last four minutes of the NFC championship game on Sunday, but it might be a mantra we can adopt here in Fountain Hills. And it has nothing to do with football.

We are specifically talking to the drivers in town. Can we all just R-E-L-A-X?

The year 2015 will be marked by street construction – lots of it. We might as well get used to it, because it’s going to be around for months and months and months.

The Sheriff’s Office has had a field day picking off speeding drivers through the construction zone on Shea Blvd. near Saguaro. We don’t blame MCSO for enforcing the law. There are plenty of warning signs about the upcoming construction zone, the lowered speed limits and more. There are no “ticket quotas,” just a desire to have people obey the law and protect construction workers.

Preliminary utility work is now starting on Saguaro Blvd. in preparation for the giant reconstruction project coming soon. There will be pockets of street construction throughout town through most of 2015.

So we have a couple of suggestions. Maybe take an alternative route – Fountain Hills or Palisades boulevards. Leave the house five minutes earlier. Take the express bus. Obey the lowered speed limits. Expect back-ups in traffic. Be considerate of the construction workers. Be mindful of your fellow motorists. Practice meditation. Pray. Slow down – at least for a few minutes or for a quarter-mile.

In other words: R-E-L-A-X.
