It’s Oktoberfest. The celebration is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29 and 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. in Fountain Park.
Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the sounds of the Fountain Hills High School marching band, which will perform under the leadership of Lynn Truby starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
They will be joined by 18 visitors from Fountain Hills’ Sister City of Dierdorf, Germany, who are visiting on a student music exchange program for two weeks.
Die Echten Waldbuam, the band flown in from Germany, are getting ready for their visit to Arizona. They will be celebrating their own 10-year anniversary of performing at Oktoberfest in Fountain Hills.
Authenticity is important to the Fountain Hills Oktoberfest, right down to the tables prepared in Bavarian blue and white where neighbors have the opportunity to chat, make new friends and join in singalongs right next to Fountain Hills’ landmark Fountain.
A number of contests are scheduled. The Alphorn blowing is a favorite for folks of all ages. Sign up to give it a try. There also are beer stein holding competitions and best costume prizes.
Revelers are reminded to bring a good appetite for the foot long brats, homemade sauerkraut, potato salad, schnitzel, apple strudel, pretzels and much more. Beer choices include the traditional Oktoberfest Bier, Pilsner Dunkel (dark) and König Ludwig’s award-winning Hefeweizen.
Children are invited to enjoy the bounce houses and a climbing wall. The apparatus are free of charge for unlimited play.
Admission is $5, and free for children 12 and younger as well as those older than 12 wearing traditional Oktoberfest attire.
