Orange juice can

Recently, my husband wrote a letter to the editor that caused a bit of a ruckus.

In it, he chastised freshman School Board member Karl Gaardsmoe for his stuttering fiasco of a performance at a recent board meeting. My husband noted that Mr. Gaardsmoe has no more credentials for being on our School Board than does an orange juice can.

What are Karl Gaardsmoe’s credentials? He does not have a degree in education. Nor does he have experience as either a teacher or as a school administrator. But he did vote to fire a great teacher. That seems to be his biggest qualification to his supporters. Unfortunately, his action has endangered the school override vote. As a mother of two students at the middle school, I find such ineptitude to be troubling.

I don’t always agree with my husband. In my view, perhaps he was being a bit unfair in his letter…unfair to the orange juice can. That lowly container actually holds more credentials than does Mr. Gaardsmoe for serving on our School Board. While my husband might quibble over this point, I would readily vote for an orange juice can over Karl Gaardsmoe.

Having cleared that up, there are two candidates who deserve your vote. They are Edith Stock and Robert Gomez. Both of them have impressive credentials.

Between them, they have over 60 years of experience in education. They are incredibly qualified to serve on the Fountain Hills School Board. That is what this election is about: picking the most qualified candidates. Please vote for Edith Stock and Robert Gomez and leave the orange juice can in the fridge.
