It is time for Cynthia Magazine, wife of Councilman Alan Magazine, to resign as chairperson of the Save Our Town committee. Because of her, the committee has lost its integrity and my trust.
From the information detailed in this very newspaper, the mission statement of this group is to educate the public on the need for a primary property tax and not promote a personal political agenda. Well, that certainly was not the objective during their last meeting. The conversation turned very political with criticism regarding candidate for mayor, Cecil Yates, who is currently a member of council. Ms. Magazine’s opinion included the demand that he be required to resign immediately.

Ms. Magazine’s political comments were out of place and, in my opinion, unethical, unnecessary and not in keeping with the mission statement of this group. Ms. Magazine, who supports the other candidate for mayor, should have taken a mere five minutes out of her busy political schedule to learn that Mr. Yates does not need to resign as a member of council at this point in time. The fact is that the council will appoint someone to fill the vacancy at the appropriate time.
So my two questions to Ms. Magazine are, “who gave you the authority to hijack this committee for your blatant political agenda” and, second, “do you really think we can now believe your facts about the property tax?”
