Members of the Fountain Hills Town Council are elected to four-year terms. That’s a long time to sit and make policy for our town. So if things are going wrong in Fountain Hills, the men and women we elect to the council only have to be held accountable to the voters, once in four years. So, bottom line, we better get it right in voting for responsible, accountable, knowledgeable council members in the upcoming town election on Aug. 28.

If you like the way things have been going in Fountain Hills, you likely will prefer the incumbents. But after the current council and mayor almost nailed us with a 20 percent property tax hike, I want some new, responsive individuals on our council. I want fresh ideas, new insight and members who have proven skills who will commit to fiscal responsibility.

Therefore, to fill the three vacant seats, I’m voting for three citizens who have stepped forward to offer their services as council members and pledge to take a new direction. They are David Spelich, career law enforcement; Gerry Friedel, professional banking/finance; and Marcus Bulow von Dennewitz, a respected state auditor. Collectively, they will bring the town much-needed oversight.
