Ozone once again exceeded the federal health standard Thursday, Aug. 2, with several sites across the Valley exceeding including Fountain Hills (147 aqi).
There was some dust last night that has lingered into Friday morning. However, PM10 levels only managed to reach the low-to-mid Moderate range yesterday.
For Friday, Aug 3, ADEQ still forecasts elevated ozone, however, there are thunderstorms expected in the area this afternoon.
Therefore, ozone is forecast to end the day in the Health Watch range. While those thunderstorms this afternoon are forecast to help ozone, they will also bring the chance for more dust. Therefore, we have a PM10 Health Watch in place today for afternoon blowing dust.
After today, PM10 levels should remain lower due to thunderstorms less likely to move into the area. However, ozone will remain elevated. Fairly calm conditions Saturday and Sunday will likely allow ozone levels to accumulate to exceedance levels. Some improvement is expected on Sunday. Unfortunately, that will be short lived as ozone is forecast to build back in over the region by the start of next week.
