I am still somewhat in a state of shock over the number of people that cannot understand how badly the community needs reliable sources of revenue if we are to maintain the community as a quality place to live and raise a family. It takes money to maintain the community infrastructure, keep up the parks, provide fire and police protection, plus reach out to attract prospective business.
I am also concerned about the apparent attempts to politicize our local town elections. The tax referendum was defeated, partially by a local group who invited the participation of a national anti-tax PAC. It appears that same local group may be behind three candidates who look to be running as a slate. They are posting numbers of signs and have a website which signifies significant monies are being spent, and to what end?

I maintain our local officials should serve the needs of the community and not the political ideals of any group, be it conservative, liberal or independent. Doing so drives up the costs of running for local office, thereby eliminating many individuals who have much to offer the town. I believe those who make large political contributions do so with the expectation of a return on their investment. Political Action Committees simply hide the identities of those contributors.
