Early Friday morning, while walking along the utility road that borders our town and the Yavapai Reservation, I was relishing the mountain views when suddenly I came upon clusters of overgrown palm trees, maybe 20 or more, which seemed out of place. They lined a neglected wash coming from the Indian Wells golf course, and ended in thick brush, half on the town side, half on the Yavapai.
They were so grand. I fancied they once lined a promenade, cared for and admired. And then I heard the trucks. And then I noticed about four of them sawed off at their base. Today I found 10-12 of them cut down.
I’ve made the appropriate calls to the town and the Yavapai tribe, but still, I wonder why they are there, and who once enjoyed their now lost magnificence. And I wish I had the means to bring back their grandeur for everyone to enjoy.

If so inclined, I recommend the walk before they’re gone.
