Park lights

For months I have seen rants against the Fountain Park lights and the town officials that approved their installation.

Enough.

I compliment those officials and the job they have done with the lighting around the park. The color, function and aesthetics of the light posts that were chosen are not offensive and they direct their lighting downward to illuminate the walkway while minimizing the amount of upward light that may interfere with the number of stars that are visible in the night sky as some have complained about.

My wife and I walk around the lake almost every evening, and the number of people we see walking their dogs, playing with their children and grandchildren and sitting on the park benches enjoying the atmosphere is tremendous.

Joggers use that walkway every evening as do walkers who want to get in some exercise and the parents of young or newborn children pushing their babies along the walkway in strollers.

Those Fountain Hills residents probably appreciate being able to see where they’re walking in the evening, not to mention the added sense of safety and security that lighting brings to our park. I know we appreciate it.

To those who would rail against the officials who made the decision to install those lights, I say stop whining and stop trying to give the appearance that you speak on behalf of the majority of Fountain Hills residents, because you don’t.

If you prefer to take walks in the dark, please feel free to do so along any of our fine town streets, because there are few street lights to interfere with your dimly-lit strolls or your star gazing pleasure.

Just stop criticizing the town officials who have created one, single, well- lit area for the rest of us to use in the evening.
