The proposed Park Place development of downtown Fountain Hills appears to be a divisive one, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For it or against it, it’s nice to see folks taking ownership of their hometown. We all want what’s best for Fountain Hills, and now the question remains: Does this project fit the bill?
As residents Dave and Katherine Hawkins point out in a letter to the editor this week, the possible development of the south side of the Avenue of the Fountains is “huge” for Fountain Hills. You don’t have to agree with their stance on the currently proposed project, but it’s hard to deny that, either way, it’s going to have a big impact on the town.

As such, we encourage the residents of Fountain Hills to get involved and stay informed. While the Planning and Zoning meeting from a couple of weeks ago didn’t exactly fill the council chambers to capacity, there’s still time for folks to hear about the proposed project firsthand during Council discussion. The next meeting is June 16, which is when it is expected to appear on the agenda.
If you’re not sure of the facts, that would be a good time to be brought up to speed. If you have questions or want to have your voice heard on the matter, that’s one of the primary functions of these meetings.
And while you’re educating yourself on the matter, you will in turn be educating the Council on what the residents of Fountain Hills think. That kind of information comes in handy when it comes time to make a vote.
