Pauline Somers, born Oct. 14, 1915, in Beulah, Mich. to the Link family, died Oct. 3, 2014, in Fountain Hills.
Pauline attributed her long life to her upbringing on the farm where she learned the value of hard work and caring for others from the Moore family who raised her from the age of five when her birth mother died.
Pauline married Gilbert R. Somers in 1946 and worked at the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Mich. for over 30 years, retiring to help her husband run Somers Tree Farm in Michigan.
Pauline moved to Punta Gorda, Fla. as a widow in 1986, where she volunteered at the local hospital until Hurricane Charley severely damaged her home.
In January 2005 Pauline moved to Fountain Hills to live with her step-son, Gilbert N. Somers, and his wife, Yvonne Somers. Pauline volunteered at Fountain View Village as the “Cookie Lady,” baking cookies each week for the residents and employees.
She spent mornings feeding the birds, caring for the dogs, and enjoying every bit of the beauty of each day. Pauline attended Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church where she has many friends.
Pauline Somers is survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in Arizona, Alaska, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia and California.
Graveside service will be held near Bloomingdale, Mich.
