Input from local principals helps the Four Peaks Rotary Club recognize teachers on a monthly basis throughout the school year.

In addition to the recognition, the club provides a $200 check for the teachers’ use.

The teacher of the month demonstrates the following qualities:

*Has the respect of students, parents, and peers.

*Brings out the best in each student regardless of individual academic ability.

*Is actively involved in providing and promoting high quality educational opportunities for students in Fountain Hills.

The club recently recognized Barb Ashley of McDowell Mountain Elementary School.

According to Principal Joanne Meehan, Ashley is a first grade teacher who has worked in the Fountain Hills Unified School District for nine years.

“Barb has a quiet, calm and patient demeanor about her that reassures children that they can learn and will succeed in her classroom,” Meehan said.

In addition to student interactions, Ashley is a team player and serves as an exemplary role model to her peers and colleagues.

“She always stays on top of assessments and focusing on areas students need additional remediation or practice in and helping parents reinforce these skills and exercises at home to enhance student progress,” Meehan concluded.

“Barb Ashley is well deserving of this prestigious award.”

Four Peaks Rotary President Bill Beamish shared the club’s gratitude for her commitment in providing the foundation for children to be challenged and continue learning.

The club’s 16th annual Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at the spectacular Rio Verde Country Club.

The majority of the proceeds of this event support various groups and organizations in Fountain Hills, including scholarships to Fountain Hills High School seniors based on grades, leadership skills and community service, Teacher of the Month Award, Junior Achievement Program sponsorship for the sixth grade of Fountain Hills Middle School, Extended Hands Food Bank of Fountain Hills and many others.

Information about the club can be obtained through Beamish at azbeamish@msn.com or the club’s web site at www.fourpeaksrotary.org.

Information about the golf tournament can be obtained from Pete Donzelli at (480) 226-5543 or through the website.
