On the 74th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the American Navy base at Pearl Harbor veterans gathered at the Veterans Memorial in Fountain Park Monday morning to remember the “day that will live in infamy.”
Joseph Deserio, CPO, US Navy (ret.) was the keynote speaker for the gathering.
Deserio said the attack was a wake-up call that spurred the United States to action and join the Allies in World War II.
“The men and women of the ‘Greatest Generation’ performed honorably and heroically,” Deserio said.
He also called on Americans in today’s tumultuous world to remain vigilant and look out for their fellow citizens.
The Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony was hosted by the Fountain Hills Veterans organizations, American Legion Post #58, AmVets Post #7 and VFW Post #7507.
