Peter William Kiewel of Fountain Hills died unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Aug. 4, 2015.
Peter was born in Little Falls, Minn. on May 26, 1937 and spent most of his younger years in Grand Forks, N.D.
After college, he spent 20 distinguished years serving his country, retiring from the military as a commander in the Navy.
He followed his love of aviation and flew as a commercial pilot for 31 years as a captain for TWA.
Before he retired to Fountain Hills, he resided in Saratoga, Calif. and St. Louis, Mo.
He loved and was loved deeply. He was admired for his quick wit and warm and generous nature. He was “everybody’s best friend.” He enjoyed golf, motorcycling, walking, spending time with friends and family, and a good scotch.
He is survived by his wife, Ellie Kiewel; his sister, Mary Dahl; his daughter, Cindy McGrorey; and his three grandchildren, Braiden, Alex and Natalie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
