Just to give a heads up. I have been running into contractors at Fountain Park who are working up bids for “Phase 6” of the park improvements.
Included in this are post lights about three feet high spaced every 10 feet along the walk all the way around the lake. I don’t know the cost of these improvements, that nobody I have talked to wants, but I have heard a million or more.
What ever happened to dark skies and the idea of using the park sunrise to sunset? To spend this kind of money on lights that will look like posts to keep people from driving into a toxic waste dump is crazy.

Phase 6?

This after blowing a million and a half on the Avenue while talking the residents into an $8 million bond issue to rebuild Saguaro.
Gruber was right, voters can be stupid.
Is this what happens to the sales tax that stays in town when you shop in town?
This town doesn’t need a property tax because it doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.
If I were on the Town Council, rather than taking a vote on “Phase 6” I would try to find a way to give the residents a vote. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about a recall petition accusing me of wasting tax dollars and general stupidity.
This hair-brained idea probably came from a group of self-appointed community activists who were called together to find ways to spend money the town doesn’t have on projects the town doesn’t need.
This project should go to the voters on a November ballot to find out what the residents think, otherwise the residents may be voting on the fate of council members in a recall election.
