For those readers who follow him religiously, you’ve probably already noticed that Publisher Alan Cruikshank doesn’t have a column on Page 1B this week.
He’s recuperating at home now, but everyone’s favorite publisher spent a few days in the Mayo Hospital last week.
Seems he ended up breaking three ribs in that fall near his pool several weeks ago. Complications from that episode – a touch of pneumonia and low blood pressure issues – caused him to enjoy a fine stay at the Mayo facility for a few days.

Already bored with daytime TV, no doubt the resilient publisher will be back in the saddle as soon as he is able. And I’m guessing there will be a column next week from our boss…

Ever since the Golden Eagle Education Foundation was started sometime back in the 1990s – I’ll have to research that exact date – The Times each year has been giving out a $500 scholarship to a deserving Fountain Hills High School senior who plans to study mass communications in college.
We’ve met many aspiring journalists, PR hopefuls and other top students over the years at Senior Recognition Night (look for photos of some of the winners on Page 11A; remaining winners will be featured next week).
This year’s deserving winner of our scholarship was Kaylin George. She’s won a few other things during her high school career, so we have no doubt her aspirations will take her far. She plans to study film and make a career in that field. Best of luck, Kaylin!

High school commencement ceremonies will be held at Fountain Park next week Friday, May 22. That means it’s time for our annual “Graduation” special edition insert.
Look for that insert in next week’s paper. It’s chocked full of senior portraits, biographies, scholarship awards and a lot of other high school memories. It’s a favorite keepsake for students and parents alike.

The end of school also means our staff is starting to work on our annual “Community Guide” publication.
It will be out this summer and serve as a comprehensive guide to all things Fountain Hills – tourism, special events, government, clubs and organizations, our School District and much, much more.
Advertisers are encouraged to take advantage of the wide exposure this annual publication offers on a year-round basis throughout town.
Call one of our ad reps – Brent, Duke or John – to talk about the possibilities.

The construction work on Shea Blvd. is nearing its final stages, a welcome sign to many. It will still be a long haul before Saguaro Blvd. is done. Remember to keep patronizing those businesses that have to suffer through the temporary detours and such. It’s a mess now, but we’re confident the result will be well worth today’s hassles.
