'Pirates of Penzance' at theater
Posted
Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance” continues this week the Fountain Hills Theater.
The musical follows the fortunes of Frederic, a young lad who is mistakenly apprenticed to the Pirate King.
When Frederic falls for the lovely Mabel, whose father is the very model of a modern major general, a tempest brews on the sea of love.
A day at the beach for the daughters of a modern major general provides Frederic and his pirate mates a first-rate opportunity to marry with impunity.
Then duty threatens to scuttle everything. Can catastrophe be averted? Will love prevail? The outcome might be guessed, but not before a few broadsides at social stuffiness are fired and delivered with wit as sharp as a corsair’s cutlass.
Full of roving rogues and dazzling damsels in distress, it’s a treasure chest full of mischievous musical mayhem.
“Pirates of Penzance” is produced by Patricia Tonzi and Patty Torrilhon, directed and choreographed by Dale Nakagawa, musically directed by Jennifer Whiting and costumed by Renee Brown.
The production features Regina Bellows, Lois Blake, Sean Bollinger, Chris Bowler, Trevor Bowler, Dyana Carroll, Todd Corbeil, Bjorn Eriksson, Alex Gonzalez, Ted Hance, Leah Klein, Matt Mcdonald, Kathy Morgan, Lew Myers, Laura Pyper, Marren Sanders, Paul Vasquez, Tom Vinopal, Carly Weekley and DeAnna Zaccaria.
The show runs through June 2 with performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youths 17 and younger. Visit www.fhtaz.org or call (480) 837-9661, ext. 3, for tickets and additional information.
