Fountain Hills Planning Commission recommends denial of rezone application

Asks for different approach to sales operation

The Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission declined to recommend a rezoning application as the first step to allowing a golf cart sales business to display vehicles in front of its business on Fountain Hills Boulevard.

The commissioners felt there was too much risk involved in rezoning the property from C-1 (neighborhood commercial) to C-2, a more general commercial designation. It was stated that the C-2 would allow for potential businesses that are not compatible with the school and church facilities across the street from the location.

However, the commissioners were more than happy to try and find a way to allow the business owner to display the golf carts he sells in the parking lot outside the store. The town’s Zoning Ordinance prohibits the display of vehicles for sale outside of a building within the C-1 district.
