I get it. You are angry that the town council wasted $38,000 on a study of the lagoon project, that anyone could see was a terrible idea. I agree. It was a bad idea, and the council should never have let the study happen.
But the lagoon is not on the May 15 ballot. A property tax to fund the town we love is on the ballot. Voting no will not be a vote against the lagoon, or restore the wasted $38,000. It will only punish the entire town for something a couple of councilmembers did. Voting no will lead to reduced spending for streets, parks, code enforcement, building permits, senior services and other “discretionary” town expenses.

If you want to protest the lagoon study, as I do, then vote against the councilmembers who made it happen: Vote against lagoon advocate Cecil Yates, who is running for mayor. Then vote against Art Tolis, the lagoon’s primary sponsor and Nick DePorter, a lagoon supporter, if they decide to run again in 2020. The other lagoon supporter, Mayor Linda Kavanagh, is not running for re-election.
Council members Henry Leger and Alan Magazine both voiced their strenuous opposition to the lagoon study. Council member Dennis Brown, who did not say a single word during the lagoon discussion, will also remain in office until 2020.
Punish the wrong-doers, not the entire Town of Fountain Hills.
