The volunteer who spearheaded an idea to build a community pool has abandoned the project, closing a social media website that prompted the idea.
Pamela Trompeter Aguilu said the Facebook page for the Fountain Hills Aquatic Center Pool would close permanently.
“It was a great idea, might have worked, but needs to be abandoned,” she wrote. “Fountain Hills needs a community pool. It’s absurd that we don’t have one.”

In January 2018, Aguilu said a committee was researching the formation of a not-for-profit corporation within the state to oversee the project.
Private donations and grants would support the project estimated then to cost about $5 million.
The concept included a full, Olympic-size pool for swim meets and water polo. A diving well was included in the initial design.
The pool would have been used for swim lessons for beginners to older residents who could exercise and stretch their muscles.
A second-floor raised track was planned for walkers and runners.
“If anyone wants to take up the torch, I have all the previously and extensive research done. There is no need to reinvent the wheel, right?
“For those who helped and supported this, heartfelt thanks.”
