Pluralism
Posted
Peter Polk
Last week, a group of four ladies wrote individual letters to The Times in support of pluralism.
I believe for a Christian to support pluralism is wrong.
Pluralism is a catch all phrase used in different contexts to designate a “more than one” philosophy. Pluralism stands in opposition to the idea of an absolute belief or system. This way of thinking contradicts biblical teaching that there is a supreme being or that the Bible alone is the revealed word of God.
If all points of view are equally valid, then there cannot be anything that is absolutely true.
One lady wrote that
“the teachings of Jesus are not about supremacy of one religion over another.” So the philosophy of Jesus is not more valid that any other? Why did Jesus tell his disciples that “I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father except thru Me.” Jesus didn’t say He was “one” of the ways. He said I am “the” way. That statement is pretty absolute and not pluralism.
Does Jesus mean that those who don’t know of Him are going to hell? Absolutely not.
One writer’s comment really bothered me when she said that she had never heard an Imam state their religion is superior.
Newspapers are full of stories about Imams calling for the killing of non-Muslims, especially Christians and Jews.
Omar Ahmand, who was chairman of CAIR board, said, “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”
If pluralism sees all views are equal, why did these four ladies write against Happeth Jones, who did not support pluralism? Ms. Jones’ view point is just as valid as theirs under pluralism.
