Portrait artist Jane Bradley will be featured at the 6:30 p.m. event.

Bradley received her MFA at University of Utah in painting and computer animation in 1991. The 12 years that followed were devoted to her work as a computer animator and eventually, an art director for major console and computer game companies.

Although occasionally she had done portraits, for the most part, her painting had been set aside for her career in computer graphics. In 2004 she decided to return to painting full time.

She has done numerous shows and won many awards including CM Russell auction, The Scottsdale Salon of Art and The Phippen Museum of Western Art Show and Sale. She won Best of Show in 2006 at the Phippen for “Red Shoes.”

She also has won awards as Portrait Artist of Arizona and Best of Show for “Professor Hip-Hop.”

She is a member of Distinction in “American Women Artists” and has memberships in “Oil Painters of America,” “Portrait Society of America” and is associate member of “Women Artists of the West” and the “Portrait Artists of Arizona.”

During the May 6 meeting, Bradley will explain her process of creating paintings – beginning with good photo material which she takes herself.

She will show examples of photos and explain why she would choose certain photos over others.

Bradley also will describe her process with Photoshop. She will present an example of a recent commission. She will describe her actual painting process, giving examples of each stage. Finally, she will discuss the importance of drawing and learning to draw correctly in doing portraiture.
