Native American tribes will compete for $75,000 in prizes in varied age categories during a three-day Pow Wow Friday, April 4, through Sunday, April 6, at Fort McDowell Casino.
The event will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the casino. There is no admission charge.
In addition to traditional dance competitions, the spotlight will be on Native American arts and crafts, authentic jewelry, food and music.
Activities Friday will begin with a gourd dance session from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by the grand entry. The first round of competitions will follow in all categories and ages.
The Saturday schedule includes a gourd dance session from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; grand entry parade at 1 p.m.; second round of competition.
Saturday evening events begin at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 with the gourd dance session, grand entry at 7 p.m. and round three of contests.
Hours on Sunday are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., gourd dance session; 1 p.m., grand entry; 1:30 to 7 p.m., competitions, and a special chicken dance contest.
