Just what is it that we perceive as we sit silently outdoors before the day begins? Is it the absence of all the little clues that our world exists beyond our senses, and thus beyond us?
Predawn perceptions begin with awareness of our own being. Only the awareness of ourselves gives us the expectation of becoming aware of our natural world. And even more importantly, that we are not alone.
It is the perception of life awaking to the promise of a new day, the flip side of night and sleep. It is the perception that we ourselves are renewed and rested. And the expectation that our life goes on for yet another day.

It is the perception of life awaking to the promise of a new day, the flip side of night and sleep. It is the perception that we ourselves are renewed and rested. And the expectation that our life goes on for yet another day.
It is the perception of the silence of night starting to yield to the faint sounds of that new day. Now to the million dollar question: “What will you do with this gift of a brand new day?”
My personal answer is that I will listen intently for the symphonic harmonics of all creatures singing in the new day. With my eyes I will relish and savor the colors of sunrise and sunset as reflected on the clouds above and the mountains in the distance.
I will feel the subtle touch of butterfly or breeze that caresses my skin. My mind will rejoice at the twin miracles of fetus development and childbirth. I will acknowledge the sanctity and brevity of life as it evolves.
I will rejoice and enjoy this gift of a brand new day!
