Prejudice

I was filled with sadness after reading Pastor Pierce’s anti-gay letter to the editor.

Not only was it hard to read a message of extreme prejudice on Christmas Eve from a pastor no less, and not only was I sad for the gay community that continuously has to endure these opinions, but sad also for those very people who hold what I believe to be hateful, misguided beliefs.

I cannot fathom how someone could believe that Jesus was against any type of love.

My answer came when I turned the page and found an article about PFLAG. I have been considering attending a meeting for over a year now and it took Pastor Pierce’s letter to finally give me the motivation to do so.

Those of us who support the gay community need to step up and take action instead of sitting by and letting them be maligned. That warm and inviting article on the very next page when I was feeling at such a loss was my message from God on what was my next step.

I had hoped to share the experience of going to PFLAG, but unfortunately I was ill and unable to be at the meeting that week. I look forward to being at the next one. I hope others will join me.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if something positive came from something negative?
